Grocery
The Grocery Department at Ocean Beach People's Co-op specializes in organic vegetarian groceries. We stock specialty diet items, and our staff is well-versed in wheat-free, gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, fat-free, low fat, unrefined sweeteners, low sodium, salt-free and delicious. We offer a full selection of wholesome packaged cereals; soy, grain and rice beverages; canned beans and soup; crackers and cookies; juice, tea, and sugar-free soda; nut butters, honey and jam; oil and vinegar; salad dressing; pasta and pasta sauce; chips and snacks; bottled waters; baking needs; baby food; seasonal treats; condiments, international and specialty items. Our staff is committed to assuring that you find everything you need each and every shopping trip. If there is an item you want which we do not regularly stock, we will happily special order it for you. If an item is not available, we will find out when we can get it for you. If you have a question about ingredients or process of food preparation, we will contact the manufacturer and get the answer. We also offer a special order service for items by the case for our customers who love to plan ahead and most of these cases receive a 10% discount. Perishables
Our Perishables Department strives to offer the highest quality perishable and frozen items available. Organic products are featured whenever possible. The department offers fresh baked bread, specialty breads for special needs, pita bread, tortillas, wraps and pre-made sandwiches. Fruit and vegetable juices are fresh pressed and delivered every morning. We also offer flax and hemp seed oils, fresh cultured raw vegetables and fresh hummus and salsas. Our dairy products are 100% free of bovine growth hormone and animal rennet and are often raw. We also offer goat milk products as well as soy, rice, almond, and vegan alternatives to dairy products. Our frozen goods are plentiful and include frozen meals, vegetables, fruits, breakfast items and dessert items. We offer shoppers an additional 10% discount on special orders for frozen items and selected perishable items when an entire case is ordered. Please contact the Perishables Manager for details.
Bulk
Our Bulk Department offers over 350 current items that are stocked fresh daily. Our self-serve bin section carries a wide array of items including grains, rice, beans, granolas, shelled nuts, sweets, pastas and vegetarian dog food and treats. We strive to carry all organic bulk products and only offer commercial alternatives when organic is not available. We have a liquid bulk section consisting of maple syrup, local honey, shampoos and soaps, canola oil, olive oil, and wheat-free tamari. We also offer whole bean coffee and fresh ground peanut and almond butters in bulk. Sulphur-free dried fruits, roasted and raw nut butters, misos, olives, pollen, candy and TVP are packaged and stocked throughout the store. We offer shoppers an additional 10% discount on all bulk special orders when large (25 to 50 pound) quantities are ordered. Please contact the Bulk Manager for details.
Vitamins
Our Vitamin Department offers only top-of-the-line, high quality products with the purest of ingredients. These products include the brands New Chapter, Source Natural, Solgar, Rainbow Light, Country Life, Vitanica, Jarrow, Floradix, Health Force and many more. We offer a complete selection of prepared herbal remedies that are certified organic and/or conciously wildcrafted from Herb Pharm, Gaia, Planetary, Paradise and many more. Our full-service homeopathic section includes single remedies, combination remedies, salves, creams and flower essences from Bach, BHI, Boiron, B&T, Hylands, Bioforce and more. Our bulk herb section offers over 200 certified organic and/or ethically wildcrafted dried herbs procured from the most selective and quality-minded growers and importers. Our Vitamin Department provides the most qualified and well-trained local staff available. They are always happy to show you around and help find the appropriate natural remedies to meet your needs. We offer shoppers an additional 10% discount when an entire case of a specific item is ordered. The Vitamin Department will also special order individual items, but no additional discount is given. Home & Body Care
Our Home & Body Care department is filled with a variety of unique, petroleum-free, plant-based items. This impressive array of products includes hair products, lotions, body oils, oral care, facial products, natural deodorants, unique handcut soaps, an extensive collection of natural plant-based cosmetics and more. We specialize in featuring locally hand-made products that are unique and hard to find as well as carrying the popular national name brands like Dr. Hauschka Cosmetics, Weleda, Nature's Gate and Dr. Bronner's. Our Aromatherapy Section is one of the most extensive in all of Southern California and features more than 200 single and blended essential oils. We focus on pure, genuine certified organic and/or wildcrafted and rare oils from Aura Cacia and Oshadhi. We also provide a variety of cruelty-free, non-toxic and highly effective household cleaners. These products do the job without leaving a scar on our environment and are produced without animal testing. If you have a pet, we have products for them too, including shampoos, flea control products and skin conditioners that are all safe and natural. We offer Co-op owners an additional 10% discount when an entire case of a specific item is ordered. Please note: additional discounts do not apply to case discounts.
